The EU TRUST partnership brought together five innovative projects that use water in spatial planning. Each project included multi-functional use of water-space, innovative and improved water management and public participation. They aimed to deliver strategic, practical and innovative solutions that adds value to existing initiatives in water management and spatial planning across Europe.
All five projects were part of wider strategies on spatial planning and water management that aimed for economic regeneration of the areas involved. The projects are pilots that encouraged trans-national knowledge transfer and help overall regional and European spatial strategies.
Theme Groups and Taskforces set up within the partnership helped deliver improved design, preparation and implementation of each project. Each of the partners gained experience in a participative approach, with new tools in public and stakeholder participation. Evaluation and best-practice guidance were produced.
A key theme was the communication and sharing of knowledge and expertise among the partners to solve common problems and apply innovative and sustainable solutions.
TRUST was a project that actually implements European Spatial Policy in the North West Region. It was implemented by five reputable and experienced partners, who all shared the vision on the TRUST objectives and approach. TRUST made water based spatial planning happen.
